Living at Lake Anna means being part of a community that looks out for each other. As both a resident and real estate agent here, I’ve seen our emergency services in action, and I wanted to share what I’ve learned from my recent conversation with Captain Timothy Luck about how our fire and EMS teams keep us safe.

Lake Anna Fire Stations and Response Times

Here’s something that might surprise you – Lake Anna is served by three main stations strategically placed around the lake. Bumpass handles the southeast, Mineral covers the central area (think Johnson Road and Mitchell Point), and Trevilians takes care of the north end up by Bib Store.

The big news? We’re getting a new firehouse by Food Lion on New Bridge Road. This is huge for response times, which currently aim to be under 15 minutes.

Quick tip: Save this number in your phone – 540-967-1234. It’s our non-emergency dispatch line. For actual emergencies, you know the drill – dial 911.

Emergency Medical Services Around Lake Anna

One question I get all the time is “How far are we from a hospital?” The short answer is we’re well-covered. We’ve got:

  • VCU down in Richmond for major trauma
  • Mary Washington in Fredericksburg (closer than you might think)
  • Spotsylvania Regional for most emergencies
  • Martha Jefferson for those “fish hook in the foot” moments (yes, that happens around here)

The really cool part? We’ve got helicopter service for serious situations. Instead of an 80-minute drive to Richmond, you’re looking at 20 minutes by air.

Fire Prevention Tips for Lake Anna Properties

Let me share a real story – we recently had a house fire in The Waters where a family’s dogs actually alerted them before their smoke detectors could. While they got out safely, it taught us some valuable lessons:

  1. Smoke Detectors: Here’s a local secret – Louisa County Fire Department will install them for free. Just ask.
  2. Lake House Specifics:

  • Those fall leaves everyone loves? Keep them away from your house
  • Got a lakeside grill? Give it space from your deck
  • Using propane? Carbon monoxide detectors are a must

Lake Anna Emergency Medical Transportation

Here’s something most folks don’t realize – when you see an ambulance show up at Lake Anna, you’re getting more than a ride to the hospital. These units are basically mobile ERs. Even better, we’ve got:

  • Rescue boats ready to go at the Tap House (no, not that kind of rescue)
  • Air medical transport for critical cases
  • Responders who know every cove and inlet of the lake

How to Get Involved: Lake Anna Fire and EMS Volunteering

Want to give back to our lake community? You don’t need experience. Start with:

  1. Basic CPR training through Louisa County Parks & Rec
  2. Join as a volunteer (they’ll train you)
  3. Work your way up if you want – some volunteers even become paramedics

Or keep it simple – hit up the Mineral Fireman’s Fair for a corn dog. Yes, you’re supporting emergency services by eating carnival food. How great is that?

Have questions about Lake Anna emergency services or anything lake-related? Give me a call. Want to learn more about emergency services specifically? Captain Luck’s your guy – reach him at tluck@louisa.org or 540-967-3491.

Living at Lake Anna isn’t just about the beautiful water views – it’s about being part of a community that takes care of its own. Our emergency services are just one more reason why I love calling this place home.
